How it Works

Total shoulder replacement works by removing the damaged areas of the ball and socket of your shoulder joint. Your surgeon then replaces these joint surfaces with new, compatible joint components that will help you move your arm more naturally again without the pain and inflammation caused by damaged surfaces rubbing against each other.

If you are experiencing any of the following symptoms, you may be a good candidate for a total shoulder replacement:

  • You cannot lift your arm over your head
  • Pain in your shoulder joint prevents you from lifting or carrying heavy items
  • Your shoulder pain is severe enough to keep you awake at night or limit sleep
  • You shoulder joint feels unstable
  • You hear or feel clicking in your shoulder when you move your arm
