About Dr. Marwin
Victor Marwin, M.D., is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon specializing in orthopaedic surgery, shoulder, elbow, hand, upper extremity, and ultrasound-guided carpal tunnel release. He is an expert in ultrasound-guided carpal tunnel release (Sonex technique), a modern approach designed to relieve pressure on the median nerve through a tiny incision, under real-time ultrasound guidance.
Dr. Marwin earned his Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from The George Washington University, completed premedical coursework at the University of Pennsylvania, and received his Medical Degree from Albany Medical College. He completed his Orthopaedic Surgery residency and a dedicated Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery fellowship at the Jacobs School of Medicine at the State University of New York at Buffalo. Additionally, he holds an MBA from the Kenan-Flagler School of Business at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Before entering private practice, Dr. Marwin served honorably as a Lieutenant Commander in the United States Navy. His military career included roles as an Attending Orthopaedic Surgeon at Naval Medical Center Camp Lejeune and Assistant Professor of Surgery at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. He also deployed to Helmand Province, Afghanistan, with a Shock Trauma Platoon/Forward Resuscitative Surgical System, treating complex trauma and teaching local medical staff.
Early in his career, Dr. Marwin trained alongside the late Paul Paterson, MD, and developed a deep dedication to patient-centered clinical care. Their professional paths crossed again years later at a national medical conference, where Dr. Marwin delivered the keynote address while Dr. Paterson led a live surgical demonstration.
An active researcher and educator, he is the principal investigator of the MISSION clinical registry which is the largest multi‑center, prospective study of carpal tunnel release (CTR) procedures ever conducted in the United States. His recent peer-reviewed publications and national lectures focus on pioneering minimally invasive, office-based treatments, such as ultrasound-guided carpal tunnel release. In his clinical practice, Dr. Marwin is dedicated to utilizing both advanced non-operative therapies and cutting-edge surgical techniques to restore function and improve the lives of patients suffering from upper extremity injuries and conditions.
