Join us in welcoming Victor Marwin, MD, MBA, a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon specializing in shoulder, elbow, hand and upper-extremity care, to our team.

Dr. Marwin brings advanced training and extensive experience treating upper-extremity injuries and conditions. He is also an expert in ultrasound-guided carpal tunnel release, a modern, minimally invasive treatment option designed to help appropriate patients recover more quickly and return to their everyday activities.

He earned his medical degree from Albany Medical College before completing his orthopaedic surgery residency and a dedicated hand and upper-extremity surgery fellowship at the Jacobs School of Medicine at the State University of New York at Buffalo. He also holds an MBA from the Kenan-Flagler School of Business at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Before entering private practice, Dr. Marwin served as a lieutenant commander in the United States Navy. His military career included serving as an attending orthopaedic surgeon at Naval Medical Center Camp Lejeune and as an assistant professor of surgery at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. He also deployed to Helmand Province, Afghanistan, where he treated complex trauma as part of a Shock Trauma Platoon and Forward Resuscitative Surgical System.

In addition to caring for patients, Dr. Marwin is an active researcher and educator. He serves as an Advanced Trauma Life Support instructor, and his peer-reviewed research and national presentations have explored innovative, office-based treatments such as ultrasound-guided carpal tunnel release.

What This Means for You

At Vero Orthopaedics, we are committed to providing comprehensive, high-quality musculoskeletal care to individuals and families throughout our community. Dr. Marwin’s arrival expands the specialized treatment options available to patients experiencing pain, weakness, numbness, limited mobility or other symptoms affecting the upper extremities.

Here is what patients can expect from our expanded upper-extremity services:

  • Comprehensive Upper-Extremity Expertise: Dr. Marwin treats conditions and injuries affecting the shoulder, elbow, wrist, hand, nerves and other areas of the upper extremity.
  • Advanced Carpal Tunnel Treatment: His expertise includes ultrasound-guided carpal tunnel release using the Sonex technique, which allows the procedure to be performed with real-time visualization and local anesthesia.
  • More Treatment Options: Dr. Marwin uses advanced nonsurgical therapies and modern surgical techniques to develop a treatment plan based on each patient’s condition, needs and goals.
  • A Focus on Restoring Function: His approach centers on reducing symptoms, improving mobility and helping patients return to work, hobbies and daily activities that matter to them.

A Modern Approach to Carpal Tunnel Relief

For appropriate patients, ultrasound-guided carpal tunnel release offers a less invasive alternative to traditional carpal tunnel surgery. Using Sonex real-time ultrasound technology, Dr. Marwin can view the anatomy of the wrist throughout the procedure and release pressure on the median nerve through a very small incision.

The procedure can be performed in the office using local anesthesia and does not require stitches. Depending on their individual condition and recovery, patients may be able to return to normal activities within approximately three to five days. This approach may also reduce the need for prescription opioids following the procedure.

Not every treatment is right for every patient. Dr. Marwin will conduct a thorough evaluation and discuss the options most appropriate for each person’s symptoms, health and recovery goals.
